P.O.W (GOLD COAST) ALUMINIUM CIGARETTE CASE

Well made Aluminium cigarette case
Approximately 5.5” x 3” closed
Unusual concealed push button opening
Seems to work- though case can be opened by hand
It also remains closed until opened.
The catches were made with very thin metal springs
Often just “Go” as in don’t work at all .
Leaving them with no locking mechanism at all.
Case is engraved front & back with floral motifs
The Front having an additional engraving of-
An African Elephant under a Palm Tree
West African colonies / Protectorate’s-
The Gold Coast / Sierra Leone / Gambia
Inside having one side decorated with line engraving
The other with a scantily clad lady
Who appears to be at the beach with sun rays behind
One elasticated cigarette holder remains
The other is long lost,
Though the mounting points remain.
A well made item.
Often attributed to Italian Prisoners of War
A good collectable item.
