BROAD ARROW MARKED FLAG RAF MANSTON

Large Heavy Duty Multi Piece RAF Station flag
Approximately 5’ 8” x 36” in size.
Made of a course cotton fabric
With a canvas taped & whipped edge
Coir rope suspension with brass Inglefield clips
Black ink stamped “R.A.F MANSTON”
Along with various other Indistinct markings
A Broad Arrow can be just made out
The numbers 146 and a possible AM Crown (?)
Not one of the plethora of modern fakes we often see
But a genuine vintage RAF Station Ensign
This originally came from the USA
(Purchased 30+ years ago by a U.K. collector)
I’ve no concerns whatsoever about it’s originality
There’s numerous pointers -
Firstly - it’s multi piece rather than printed,
It has a proper rope suspension
Where as the copies have nylon or a sash cord type
It’s not wartime dated !
Most if not all the copies seen are dated 1939 - 40
With obvious AM - makers marks.
It’s a good honest flag ,
A little grubby , the markings have washed out
(Or we’re just badly stamped in the first place)
It also appears to have had a couple of repairs
(As well as the corner reinforcing’s)
A nice addition to any RAF / Battle of Britain collection
