1944 DATED CARVED WOODEN BOX HJ INTEREST

Very well made “Trench Art “ wooden box.
With small inset enamel Hitler Youth “Diamonds”
(Four on the lid and one on each end - Six in total)
A small black swastika set in a diamond & flower
To the front body of the box
The box lid is decorated with small pin head nails
Carved with fruit & flowers, dated 1944.
Lid is attached by two small brass hinges
Unfortunately one has lost it’s original pin
As well as one of its screws .
As such one side is adrift .
This could be rectified quite easily but I leave as I find
I’ve just slid a dress makers pin in the hinge to hold it
(Box is approximately 7.5” long ,5” wide & 3” deep )

A paper sticker to the bottom reads -
“Genuine Hitler Youth Wooden Box,
Brought Back From Essen Germany
1945 by L/Cpl Frank Hedger”

A quick search on Forces War Records ,
Shows 3 X Frank Hedgers
One never served in Germany (Italy)
Another was an RAF Officer
The third being a Pvt in the Somerset Light Infantry
(Who served in Germany)
I’m guessing that he’s the chap who obtained the box.

Overall the box is in pretty good shape good condition
It’s got a few marks,stains ,scratches etc ,
And as stated it’s got a damaged hinge ,
But it’s a lovely example of WW2 German handicraft
I’ve never seen HJ enamelled badges as small
A good addition to any German WW2 collection
