UNUSUAL AUSTRIAN BAYONET / SIDE ARM CONVERSION

Very unusual Bayonet / Side arm conversion
A Austro Hungarian 1873 Werndl Saber Bayonet
With the muzzle ring and lower quillion removed
Along with the pommel & locking mechanism
The grips are of chequered horn or composite material
Secured by 3 x copper rivets
The blade has been plated some considerable time ago
The scabbard has a old repair or adaption to the end
(As per photo)
It also has a very small frog stud -
Possibly the original one just being reduced in size
Condition wise it's very good,
Some very old light pitting to the exposed metal work
The grips have a small hairline crack in each panel
But they are tight and good with no movement at all
The scabbard has an old black painted finish to it
It's totally devoid of markings, nothing at all on the blade
Any regimental markings went when the quillion was removed
Can't find out exactly what it is
Was it an official conversion - I don't know
But when it was originally done a lot of work went into doing it
