VOLUNTEER YATAGHAN BAYONET & SCABBARD

1858/60 Pattern (?) Yataghan Bayonet
Assumed to be a Volunteer unit item
As it’s devoid of any markings except -
C&J (Clement & Jung ) on the blade
With numbers on the pommel & cross guard
But could be a German export for the US Civil War
Or indeed any other country that used the rifle
Chequered leather grips in good condition
Leaf spring attached by a screw
Pommel & cross guard with age related speckling
Dark old rust marks (Smooth to the touch)
Large heavy yataghan blade with some old marks
Again dark rust speckling
(Nothing to detract from the bayonet)
Black leather Scabbard steel top and bottom mounts
Leather stiff & rigid & in very good condition
Even age patina on both mounts
Only “issue” is a small line of rust holes on the chape
This in no way compromises the stability of it
It’s still held firmly in place no weakness at all

SCARCE 1918 MARKED P17 US BAYONET & SCABBARD

Scarce variant of an American P17 Bayonet
With Remington 1918 error date mark
Early 1918 production bayonets were factory stamped, with date marking rather than pattern.
This was quickly realised and 1917 reverted to.
As such 1918 Remington bayonets are scarce .
17” single edged blade ,with some speckling
(As can be seen in the photos)
Marked Remington 1918 to one side
With US Government markings to the other
Blued pommel and cross guard-
(Some surface rusting that’ll clean up fairly easily )
Wooden grips secured by two screw bolts
In very good clean condition
Green leather scabbard marked EJB to the back
Steel top and bottom mounts
Top Mount with wire belt hooks
Unusually with a WW2 British HG bayonet frog.
This has obviously been in place for some years
Not a modern addition
Unusual because this is a US bayonet
Devoid of any U.K. markings on the blade
(Or anywhere else )
Green scabbard and belt hooks are also a US feature
This may have been a HG issue Bayonet
But missed having additional British proof markings
A unusual bayonet not often seen in this configuration
That should make an excellent addition to a collection

The other side of the blade numbered 9720

With a very slight ding to the front
Some very light rust spots to the metal work
(Both pommel and scabbard )
But nothing that can’t be easily removed
Frog is maker marked but I can’t make it out
Please look carefully at the pictures
They make up part of the description
A good honest bayonet in good collectable condition

SCARCE WW1 MEHLICH 84/98 (K98) BAYONET & SCABBARD

1915 dated 84/98 (Commonly called K98) & scabbard
Scarce variation of a standard WW1 German bayonet
Blade of earlier pattern (1871/84)
Marked-
J.MEHLICH A.G BERLIN C.
With crowned W 15 to the spine (1915)
Light coloured wooden grips held by screw bolts
Having distinctive round cleaning holes
Hilt / grips with flash guard
Acceptance / inspection stamps to spine & pommel
In original steel scabbard.
As can be seen the metal work is bright
(Though not over cleaned )
The first 2” of the blade has a darker colour
Not too sure why either bluing
Or kept partially our of the scabbard for years
Either way it does not detract from the bayonet
The scabbard has obviously had a frog at some point
With the difference in colour being obvious
If another frog was put on it would accompany it well
Good collectable bayonet, not often seen
Far from mint but in no way unacceptable
Would make a good addition to any collection

Early 1st type liner with riveted head cushion / pad
Marked 6 3/4 BMB 1/ 1939
Good original khaki chinstrap
The only thing missing is the lace through the liner.

WW2 -1950’s BRITISH OFFICERS PEAKED CAP

WW2 or just Post War Officers Cap
Badged to the Queens Own Worcestershire Hussars
In good clean condition
Very little if any real wear at all
With its original wide leather chin strap
Unusually plain white metal side buttons
(Why I don’t know)
Inner liner has become tacky at some point in time
Sticking itself to the lining material
It’s a fairly common thing with British Officers caps
Hopefully the picture of the inner can show this
(It’s now dry no tackiness at all)
As far as I can see the cap is totally original
Coming from the estate of a Wartime RAC Officer
(Who also served in the Reserves Post War )
Quite small but displays very well
With a stunning cap badge as can be seen in the pics

Code: 50840

VICTORIAN OXFORD UNIVERSITY RIFLE VOLS HELMET & NAMED TANKARD

Stunning lot that came from a long standing collection
Comprising of a green Home service helmet
With white metal fittings , spike chain etc
Splendid Victorian crowned helmet plate for the -
Oxford University Rife Volunteers
Internally it has its Original leather liner band in place
Chin chain is part detached from the leather backing
But still in place and original to the helmet.
At some point the fittings have been cleaned
The fixing pins replaced with matchstick slivers
This appears to have been done fairly regularly -
I’ve seen numerous badges etc fixed the same way
These could be easily removed and replaced
I did consider doing it but would rather leave as is.

Unfortunately helmet isn’t named
But it came with a beautiful lidded pewter tankard
Engraved to-
No.2 company
Oxford University Rifle Volunteer Corps
Dated 1870 with five names on it
All I can surmise the helmet belonged to one of them
The tankard itself has a glass bottom,
Is maker marked and numbered to the base
Standing an impressive 8.5” tall

Both items are scarce in their own right
But I really don’t want to split them
(Was half tempted to keep them myself !)
Would make a stunning addition to any collection
